Integrating along Trajectories

In atmospheric models, such as WRF, for example, the maximum time step is often tightly coupled to the resolution of the model. The higher the resolution the smaller the time step. This is due to a Courant (or deformational Courant), sometimes also called CFL, number constraint. In particular in meso scale and sub meso scale scenarios CFL limited discretization are not really feasible due to their (sub) second time step. This project aims at developing algorithms which avoid these limitations by removing the constraint through integration. This converts the highly nonlinear and computationally challenging problem into an interpolation problem.
